The Canoe Fresh Food Market, also known as The Bakery, in beautiful downtown Washago, has started hosting a live music event once a month on Saturdays; starts at 8 PM. Probably seats and stands about 35-40 people and it was packed last time. The coffee and tea and food is amazing, not to mention the music and the whole social event. Nice people and nice surroundings and ambience.

The Barrie Folk Society, in conjunction with the Barrie Public Library is changing the format and schedule for the regular Unplugged Open Stage.
The last 2013 Open Stage date until September is Friday June 14 at the downtown library. Door opens at 6:30 for performers to sign up. Music plays from 7:00-9:30pm. Donations are welcome.
All ages are encouraged to attend and participate!

The Friday Night Teen Cafe, held on the third Friday of each month at the Bolton United Church, is a place for teens (grade 8 - 12) to meet with their friends and support the performances of their peers in the arts: music,theatre, literature etc. This is an opportunity for youth to perform in front of a live audience. Special Guest artists are often invited to the Cafe to share their knowledge and to present their own unique and diverse cultural experiences. Willie P. Bennett
My favourite Willie P. story involves a sunny afternoon, a shady hillside, a perfect landscape featuring the Superior shoreline and Willie playing a harmonica duet with a train. You really had to be there to feel the magic as he played the harp into the sound hole of his mandolin and listened to the sweet music echo off the Paju.
I remember someone asking him later how much he had paid the engineer.
He has more great songs out of print than most Canadian songwriters have ever written. He will be sorely missed!
THE FridayFolk ARCHIVES
FridayFolk 06/07 began with a wonderful show at True North with one of my favourite people; Katherine Wheatley! An eclectic blending of sorrow, joy and hope into an evening of comraderie, this was a great way to christen the remarkable space Troy has created upstairs. Tranby Croft, Mose Scarlett, Angie Nussey, Chuck Baker, Frida's Brow and Dean McTaggart also graced the FridayFolk stage. At the end of the 2007 season I handed over the reins of power to Alyssa Wright. Latest updates always on Live@Jives's Folkie Calendar.
Fall 2005 saw outside the lines on September 30, Wendell Ferguson and the Smoking Section on October 21 and Lynn Miles on November 25th 2005. In the New Year we presented a series of House Concerts in locations in and around Orillia - exposing lesser known talents to the Live Music audience. Ian North & Likewater on February 24th, 2006 at the Friends' Meeting House and Rob Ritchie on March 31 at the Webers. Juno award winning Jenny Whiteley took the series back to Swanmore Hall on May 5th. Support Live Music...check some of these shows out
2005 kicked off with a FridayFolk Goes Home show in January featuring Geoff Somers at Susan and Ron's charming domicile in the Oro Medonte hills. February 25th saw Canadian legend Willie P. Bennett in concert at Swanmore Hall in Orillia. Rodney Brown told his tales of the north at the Zen Waffle Inn in April. A wonderful time was had by all at the Spring Fling at the Eady Hall and an incredible acoustic show with Rita Chiarelli wrapped up our spring shows at the end of May.
Some FridayFolk history....The 2003/4 season kicked off with the Shards, an incredibly energetic celtic band with serious attitude and talent who rocked the Sundial Inn(Travelodge) on the last Friday in September. The autumn line up included ( songer/songwriter extraordinare) Norm Hacking and Suzie Vinnick (the Queen of the Blues). Mose Scarlett started the New Year off right in January..once again at the Sundial...followed by February's Diamonds in the Rough doubleheader of Chuck Baker and brilliant songwriter/spoken word artist/ social activist Evalyn Parry. Manitoba Hal Brolund blew everyone away with his incredible original blues material in March and the Spring Fling, celtic country dance in April at the brand newly refurbished Eady Hall was a riot!
EILEEN LAVERTY KICKED OFF THE 02/03 FRIDAYFOLK CONCERTS, followed by TERRY TUFTS in October and a wonderful show from BOB SNIDER in November. The New Year brought Nancy White , Clay Tyson & Suzanne deBussac, Tamarack, James Gordon and don't forget the Spring Fling with Heartwood and caller Lorraine Sutton.
Thank you for supporting all the wonderful talent The Orillia Folk Society has been able to bring to Orillia! The Millenium Turning year saw performance from artists as varied as Rick Fielding and Erin Benjamin....Vox Violins to David Francey...John Prince and a Piece of the Rock to Nancy White...Swanmore Hall was filled to capacity with knowledgeable, attentive and appreciative audiences. Thanks for coming out to hear great Canadian talent!
